Go On -- Waste Some Time
the other day i was scrolling through the latest scripts over at JavaScript Source. i know, that sounds mighty geeky, but over the years i've found a lot of easy solutions over there for situations that pop up at work. i pretty much understand the basic workings of JS and can modify scripts as necessary, but some of the stuff people write and post over there never ceases to amaze me.
two examples for you, and no, i didn't use either of these for work.
1. Five Card Poker -- Jacks or Better. make your bet, hold and draw cards. the thing i find the most amazing about this one is there are no images involved anywhere! it's all done with font and css atributes. truly amazing. the only thing i don't like about it is it asks you to select the cards you want to replace, not the ones you want to hold -- which is the opposite of what you would do on a video poker machine.
2. Chess. this one is a time-sink if i've ever seen one! it's a fully function chess game that you play against the computer.
so go ahead. i figure if i'm wasting a lot of my time, i should give you the chance to do so too! it is monday after all. again, both of these were found at JavaScript Source. the poker script was written by Brian Gosselin and the chess one by Neil Pearce.
