Mao
friends -
Mao passed away peacefully at home at 5 am this morning, after a brief illness. he was 15.
whoever said, "the fog moves in on little cats' feet," never met Mao-Tao Beck. his polydactyl paws pranced, pounced, and announced his presence wherever he went. although they resembled boxing gloves, Mao was a lover, not a fighter, and only landed playful punches on his siblings. his voice, so characteristically Siamese, would call to us, converse with us or sometimes just amuse himself as he explored the still wet shower stall each morning.
his dazzling sapphire-blue eyes were only one indication of the truly precious gem of a cat he was. we and his kitty brothers and sisters will miss him dearly, but we know he has moved on to a place where he can again run and play, and we are richer for having had him as a member of our family.
four of our favorite pictures of Mao may be found here: http://www.petebeck.com/photos/archives/001112.html
these were taken one sunny saturday morning last fall when all was right with his kidneys and his world -- as is evident in the sparkle in his eyes.

I'm so sorry for your loss. As a mommie to 2, 12-year-old kitties, I'm dreading the day that I lose either one of them. You did what you could for Mao, and that should give you some peace.

I've been there but that makes no difference - every pet is unique and mao sounded like a wonderful companion. You have done him a great mitzvah by caring for him so tenderly and making his stay with us on planet earth a pleasant and entertaining one. He is surely grateful for all you have done for him, as we are grateful that you shared his special spirit and beautiful images with us. May we all treat each other as well as you treated him.

So sorry for your loss. Happy, however, for all the good years you had with him.

few losses hit deeper than the loss of those we've cuddled and nuzzled. my sympathies are with you, erin and your feline family.
