Down To The Wire
the other day while she's poking and prodding my teeth, Kathleen, my dental hygienist asked me, so who's getting your vote for president?
you know, that's a dangerous question to answer while someone has a sharp metal implement in your mouth. i mean, what if i answered wrong? for me, any sort of dental procedure is torture. i cringe to think of what i might have had to suffer if i said the wrong thing!
fortunately for me, the hygienist and the rest of the staff were all Kerry backers and the rest of the cleaning continued with only a minimum amount of bloodshed.
while we're on the subject of election bloodshed, the L.A. Times has launched an interesting interactive election feature, that tracks state by state, which candidate is projected to win each state. as of typing this, Bush holds a lead over Kerry, 177 to 153 electoral votes (they each will need 270 to win). there are 208 votes that are still too close to call. however, when you move your mouse over the map, you can see where each stands in their local polls. i did a little number crunching and gave each of those closely called states to the candidate who was in the lead right now, and what do you know -- when i do that, Kerry pulls it out, 280 electoral votes to Bush's 238! that means if the election were held today, Kerry would win! let's hope this is a sign that W is on his way out.
try the map out for yourself -- it's a very cool tool. the tool itself is available to anyone, you’ll need to register with the L.A. Times though if you want to read this article about it.
i still find it hard to believe that there are so many people backing Bush this year. maybe it's because, living in the bay area, i'm insulated from it. but it amazes me that after all of the documentation there is of how he has lied to us about the reasons for waging war; how he came into office with a 4.5 trillion dollar surplus and he's mismanaged and spent us into a 4 trillion dollar deficit; how his policies have caused more than one million american to loose their jobs. i repeat, how can anyone be backing bush? i feel like some great Jedi mind trick has been played on half the nation.
these are not the droids you're looking for.... move along, move along...
yesterday, maria posted an article that recently appeared in Salon called, Why Conservatives Must Not Vote for Bush. it's a bit long but is required reading for anyone who cares about the future of our country -- regardless of their party affiliation. please take a few minutes from your day to go read it. it was written by Doug Bandow who was a former special assistant to Ronald Reagan.
five days to go.
