Vegas, Part II
i'm here this morning to discuss video poker.
before leaving for Vegas last weekend, i had several conversations with a few semi-professional gambling acquaintances of mine and the consensus was, if you're looking for the best paying gaming machines, video poker is the way to go. as i am notorious for my lack of luck when it comes to gaming, lack of good luck that is, this was the insiders tip i needed in order to hit it big! after all, i had a big vet bill waiting for me at home that needed to be paid off.
so we tried it. we played. and played... for hours on end at times. and you know what, the money seemed to be sticking with us longer! it was working! oh yeah, sure -- the twenties were still being slowly sucked out of my wallet, but it did seem to take longer then when i played those damn evil Wheel Of Fortune slot machines.
and video poker can be fun too. one night, Erin and i found a pair of one cent, triple play video poker machines and decided to have a contest. we each put in a buck and said the first one to either double their money or to outlast the other would win (and the loser would have to buy desert). it took us 70 minutes but she won. she had 12 cents left win i finally tapped out.
speaking of leftover money, if you have money in a machine and you're losing big time, at what point do you say oh the hell with it -- it's not worth it to cash out, i'm just gonna play until it's gone? anyone? ok, that must just be me.
and here's another question for you -- this one for the math-wiz types. when you're playing Jacks or Better and you get dealt one face card and a low numbered pair (like a King and a pair of two's), which ones do you keep? i started out keeping the high card, hoping to get another, but after a day or two i switched and started keeping the pair. i'm still not sure if that was the right way to do it -- i seemed to lose money no matter what -- but it seems like the pair would be the right way to go.
ok, enough of that. i promised you pictures.
here's The City, taken from the plane window on our way there; the view from our hotel window; and the scary clown at the Boardwalk Casino.
more pictures to follow shortly!

I'd keep the pair and the face card. What you're hoping for is for either a matching face card to pop up or a third of your low pair.

The picture of the city is very impressive. I've never been able to get a decent picture out a plane window. Cool.
