Whew!
Erin and i are back from our 48 hours in NY! actually if you don't count the time on the planes it was more like 36 hours. what an amazingly fun whirlwind of a trip -- i still can't believe not only that we did it, but how easy it was to pull off! here's our weekend in a nutshell, in no particular order:
- walked through central park
- didn't get too lost on the subway. i learned the hard way that the B line doesn't run on weekends. you must take a D train and transfer to a C at 59th
- saw rats in the subway. very healthy rats too -- plush and sleek. and big -- not like our west-coast subway rats.
- saw two very different musicals -- Lion King & Rent. loved them both.
- saw Drew Lachay (from 98 degrees) play one of the leads in Rent and he was remarkably good. Frenchy Davis had the night off.
- saw two parades, the Korean Day parade on saturday and the Polish Day parade on sunday. ok, so we were in a taxi for the latter and got stuck in traffic because of it.
- took several taxi rides and contrary to what i've been told, the drivers were all polite and didn't drive crazy.
- ate at two authentic NY diners
- ate real NY pizza in a building that was a former church
- had (several) martinis that each cost more than that entire pizza, in an old world bar in the theatre district
- stayed in a very cool historic hotel, home of the Vicious Circle. the New Yorker magazine was conceived here in this hotel, as was My Fair Lady which was written in a room on the nineth floor
- visited the Guggenheim
- made friends with a Pomeranian in the handbags section at Bloomingdales.
- Erin bought a fake pashmina from a real street vendor for $10, but not any of the fake designer purses. it wasn't for lack of looking at every street stand that she found though...
- i took nearly 200 pictures that are still in the camera. i'll be posting them here or in the photolog over the next few days.
- i fell more in love with JetBlue and their direct Oakland to JFK flights!
- i learned that i can do an awful lot on very little sleep
- i also know that i will so do this again -- only this time it'll be for more than 48 hours!
and now that we're back and it's monday, today is Erin and my official wedding anniversary! happy anniversary sweetie. eighteen years and still going strong -- i'm looking forward to many more years and fun trips together.

Happy Anniversary, honey! You are still the best husband I ever had ;) and I love you, love you, love you!
Thanks for planning the NYC trip - it was the BEST - and I know I'll be thinking of it and smiling all winter long.
For anyone else reading this who isn't my fantastic hubby, all I can say is - GO. GO. NOW. NYC is so much fun, and has something for everyone - and Jet Blue is terrific and affordable.

jetblue is the bomb! and since we can't be on the same coast as san francisco ... at least we've got NYC. SF is our first favorite, and NYC is our second favorite.
glad you had fun.
