Mao
it has been brought to my attention that there has been a serious lack of gratuitous cat pictures on this blog lately. i'm sorry. i can't believe i've been such a slacker. so to make it up to you, i'm giving you my latest desktop image.
taken about a week ago, this is my oldest kitty, Mao. Mao and i first met many years ago when i paid a visit to our local animal shelter, looking for a lost kitty of ours. i didn't find that kitty but who i did find was a tiny, scared Siamese kitten, who had a remarkable set of lungs on him. this little guy was all by himself, screaming as loud as he could, and on his cage hung a sign that said "danger - biter".
biter?! i could tell immediately that this eight-week old kitten was anything but dangerous. i tracked down someone who worked there to find out his story. ends up, he had been a part of a litter of kittens at a daycare center. one of the little kids there had picked him up by his tail, causing him to bite the child in defense. the day care center didn't want to have anything more to do with him because of this, so they called animal control and had him taken away. he was on day two of a mandatory ten day quarantine, and if he didn't show any signs of rabies he would be put up for adoption. i noted the day and time he would be available and made sure i showed up early, in order to be first in line for him.
that was 14 years ago and as far as i know, since he's moved into my house he's not bitten another thing. other than his catnip toys, of course.

I'm not a cat person, but Mao's got some amazing blue eyes. Too bad they didn't pick the kid up by the tail. Little bastards.

he looks just like my "little" tia. she's probably close to 20 pounds.
ours is a tonkinese though, a bit darker than siamese.

Mao looks like my Tia. Tia is definately not a biter...she prefers chewing on food. Lots of food. Lots and lots of food. Did I mention she likes food?

"danger - biter", i wish there was some law that made that notice manditory on people too. i'd still fall in love with 'em though, if they looked as lovely as Mao.
