Evidence : Part II

in the last post, Erik commented that we should all admit to the first concert we saw and when. his first was Paul McCartney and Wings, June 1976 at the Cow Palace, SF. Miss Bliss contributes that her first was Rare Earth at Knotts Berry Farm somewhere around 1974.

those of you who have read my 100 Things already know who my first concert was. it was the Guess Who at the Concord Pavilion in 1974. one of my friends convinced me that the Guess Who and The Who were the same band. sadly, they weren't -- and i didn't find that out until i got there.

so how about you? what was the first show you saw and when?

It should have been Aerosmith, but my mom wouldn't let me go. Instead it was a big Foxboro, MA stadium concert of The Beach Boys/Chicago. I'm not sure what year it was, but probably about 1972 or so. I'm terribly embarassed.

Unless I'm repressing something, I think mine was Billy Joel for his album The Nylon Curtain. Sounds like some of you went to concerts at an early age. I wasn't allowed. And Pete, I like the Guess Who. They had a few good one's. If you get melancholy for the olden days, you can probably catch them at a Casino around here in AZ sometime.

OH MAH LORD! The Guess Who (while not The Who) were still a GREAT first concert Pete! I did see The Who in their FIRST farewell tour sometime in the '80s...I know it was the '80s because I had an illegal substance in my boot...I'll leave you to figure out which one it might have been.

I think I saw Tower of Power at the Sonoma County Fair in the early 80's, but it was free and it was TOP in their leanest years, so I don't count it. My first real concert was The Firm in January, 1985 at the Cow Palace. I remember marveling that with all the outrageous BASS fees, concerts could cost as much as $20 in the future. 17 years later, I forked over $225 for two tickets to see U2.

Well P, I guess I'm the granddaddy of you all. I saw this little known duet at Disneyland in 1964 (after the securtiy guard made me take my letter sweater off and retun it to the hotel) Oh the duet Sonny and Cher. No one had heard I got you babe on the radio before then! I grew up in Martinez!
