The Weekend
i don't like to blog about work related stuff - i try to keep that separate from the other drivel i leave here. tonight though i'm making an exception. i've kinda been in denial about this lately. but i think it's all starting to sink in.
i'm losing my view.
when my company moved to a new building in 1997 i somehow managed to land a cubical with a window. well, the truth is i squatted to get it. i was assigned the adjoining cubical. when my friend Scott, who had the window seat, left the company shortly after we moved in, i made my move. i even switched the phone and network cords under the wall and for months no-one but my coworkers realized i'd done it. yeah, not having management notice or care wasn't really an ego stroke, but it didn't matter. i had my view. a view of the bay, of treasure island, of the ferry building. i held on to that seat for more than five years. and next thursday, it will belong to someone else.
you see, i got a new job. it's the same company, but it's a new job title and a new boss and a new cube, all on a different floor of the same building. i finally will officially be a part of the IT department. as to be expected there are some trade-offs but i think this time there are more positives then not. most of my duties will the same and the reassignment will allow me to work on things i didn't get to before. plus, i saw my new space for the first time friday and it too has a window. it's half the size of my current cube (it's so narrow i can literally touch both walls at the same time when i extend my arms) and it faces another building, but it's still a window.
it could be worse, i know. after i move i'll post pics of the new cube and view, so you can decide for yourself.

i spent yesterday afternoon playing bocce and drinking wine at a winery up in Healdsburg, it was Shari's birthday and such a great time! and the winery was a perfect setting. pics (and a couple video clips) can be found here.

i've also updated the picture of the week. this weeks picture features some of the sweet fruits of summer.

Ya know they say that when one door closes, another one opens. The same could be said about the view. Who knows, maybe you'll have an even better one?!?

Congratulations, Pete! Sorry about the view thing, but maybe there will be something cool to look at through a window in the other building. :)
