Goodbye Spot
it was the summer of 1987. Erin and i had just bought our first house. it was small, on the border of a questionable neighborhood and the commute to and from work was long, but it didn't matter - it was ours. and most importantly it meant that since we were now homeowners, we could finally get a cat! through a rescue organization called Community Concern For Cats we heard about these two kittens, a black and white one and his all white brother. we went to see them. this was the first time i met Spot and his brother Id, they were 4 months old at the time. we also met their mother, Reba - we fell immediately in love with them all, they came home with us soon afterwards. Reba turned out to be the wisest creature i have ever known - human or otherwise. if Yoda could materialize in feline form, you'd have Reba. she would stare at you in a knowing sort of way and you'd swear she was gonna speak to you. but then she didn't have to, she spoke with those eyes. Reba left us on april 18th, 2000, following Id who passed in 1994 from a heart ailment. this left Spot as the sole elder of the family. and yesterday, he left us to join his mom and brother.
i won't say that he was the perfect cat and such - none are (he had a stubborn streak only rivaled by mine!) and he is still legend at Muller Vet Hospital, for the way he would put his paw down when he'd had enough. but he was a good, kind, affectionate kitty. he was a good companion and a good big brother to the younger kitties that have since joined the family. i'm gonna miss you Spot. i love you. we'll meet again someday.

Yup -- Spot was one cool cat. He'd charge downstairs four steps at a time when he got worked up. A great tribute for a great cat. Thanks.

Although you know that cats don't live forever, I can imagine that it's hard to loose a buddy who's been with you for 15 years. We have 2 cats of 13, and although they can be a real pain in the ass, especially when they vomit on an unreplaceble picture of my grandmother and me, some 30 years ago, *grrrr* , I know I will miss them a lot when they're gone.

thanks everyone. i saw a nice post on another site that really summed it all up for me:

Hi guys,
Pete, that was a nice eulogy. I am truly sorry for the loss of Spot. I know how much he meant to you both (as do all your cats/kids). You will always have the memories. And now Spot will be able to reunite with his family.
